The Matroska Multimedia container is a free and open media file format. It is also a container format which means it can contain all sorts of audio, video, textual and graphical file information inside of it. You can have multiple number of audio, video, textual and graphical streams co-existing in the same file without an issue. It uses something called an Extensible Binary Meta Language which is supposed to be equivalent to XML.
