I do a lot of video converting with programs like Format Factory and Any MP4 Converter. I downloaded season 2 of The Black Sails. It's roughly 10 hours total video at only 1.95gb with SURPRISINGLY GOOD QUALITY, so I was intrigued as to how I could achieve this format.

Codec: h264

The bitrate is pretty low. Total bitrate of only 420-470 on some of the episodes. That's WITH audio, so I'd say the video bitrate is only 320 or so.

The resolution is: 854x480

I thought you could only maintain good quality with such a low bitrate with h265...

Anyways, when I mimic these settings with Format Factory or Any MP4 Converter, the video quality gets grainy and pixelated when there's any major movement on the video. Whereas, with the black sails, the quality is great all the way through.

Could someone explain why this is happening, and how I could mimic the settings in these black sails videos?? Thanks!

EDIT: I just realized that the frame rate on the black sails is only 23.9. Whereas most other videos I have are 29 or so. I never modify the frame rate. I just tried mimicking the frame rate as well. Didn't make much difference...
