I am working on a large project that requires ~1000 people recording audio/video of themselves singing along with a guiding track (which itself is both audio/video), then the tracks will be stitched together into a single production.

I am trying to avoid the need to manually align each track manually with the backing track due to the recordings all starting in different places.

One approach I thought of was to have a piece of software that both plays the guiding track video, and records the audio/video from the individual - that way, each track will be aligned automatically as the recording starts at the same time as the backing track.

Is there a piece of free/open source software that could achieve this? I'm sure there would be some commercial packages that would do the job, but obviously it's not feasible to purchase a software license for hundreds of people.
