We have a YouTube channel with informative videos that are mostly intended for English speaking viewers, but the people in the videos are speaking Spanish so they need subtitles. I upload the English subtitles srt file to YouTube with the video so YouTube plays them automatically but is this enough?

I can hard-code the subtitles into the video too. Are there any disadvantages to this? Would it be better to both hard-code the subtitles and upload the .srt file too?

These videos may be embedded on websites and I see closed captions don't autoplay when the video is embedded so this would be a reason to hard-code them. Is there any reason not to just hard-code the subtitles into every video?
