I have a video asset that is 1:57 long. When I import it to AE, in Project window it suddenly shows that video is only 1:49;15f long! Why does it happen and how can I get my extra 8 seconds back?

Those 8 hidden seconds contain sound that I need to work with.

UPD: here's all the data about this video asset (taken with MediaInfo software):

  • Is it variable frame rate? – Gyan Aug 30 '16 at 15:15
  • @Mulvya I don't know how to check it, could you please tell me? It seems that my video asset did not just changed its frame rate, but it lacks some seconds which were not empty – Aksana Zinchanka Aug 30 '16 at 15:24
  • Check using mediainfo. Use View -> Text mode. – Gyan Aug 30 '16 at 15:24
  • Nice soft, thanks! It tells me that the frame rate is "Constant" and equals 25fps – Aksana Zinchanka Aug 30 '16 at 15:58
  • What duration does it show for audio and video? – Gyan Aug 30 '16 at 16:04

Try converting the video to Quicktime ProRes format, or another format that doesn't have intra-frame compression before you import it into After Effects.

    that doesn't have intra-frame compression --> doesn't ? – Gyan Aug 31 '16 at 10:52
