I work as a Systems Administrator and a Technical Consultant to the Helpdesk for the EECS (Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences) Department at the University of California, Berkeley Campus. This has been my career for the last 24 years which began as an electronics technician. I worked my way to principal electronic tech and then crossed over to systems administration about 12 years ago. My strongest experience is with computer hardware and I am usually the go to guy when laptops and desktops start smoken or won't power up.

One of my most interesting assignments at Berkeley was in 1992. I was put on a special team with NASA trained techs to fabricate an assembly bound for the Arecibo radio telescope. This was a special 4 million FFT based spectrum analyzer for SETI project SERENDIP III under the direction of UC Berkeley physicist Dan Werthimer. I got to build hardware to listen for ET!

In my off hours since 1977 I have been working with music, still photography, and small scale sculptures some involving digital electronics. However in 2008 after a 35 year hiatus I have returned to my own independent cinematic (video) and music productions.

Presently I use a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX500v) and I use Sony Vegas Pro 10 as my main video and music editing suite. I have experience with both Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker, and I am a tiny bit familiar with iMovie. I also have a B.S. in Cinematography from SIU-Carbondale, 1974 and a M.F.A. in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, 1977.

Hey BillyNair, I won't be able to take closer look right away. Since you mention an upgrade/patch, I think it would be best for you contact Sony directly. Start here: sonycreativesoftware.com/support/technicalsupport.asp

Hey BillyNair, I have both versions. I will take a look and see if I can copy your error. Off hand I would say it sounds like some text editing feature is still engaged if you see that box. Are you sure all the pop up windows have been dismissed?

oops didn't get in 5 seconds...Good one dwwilson. I have some extra things to add: In Post Vegas for example can only speed up or slow down by a factor of 4, so an hour sped up would be 15 minutes. However, there maybe plugins that will extend the range such as Twixtor. In production, the best in camera time-lapse work I've seen is Adonis Pulatus, he recommends one exposure every 1 second with a 1/2 second shutter time--this gets rid of blipps. Most experienced in camera time-lapse pros will recommend "Drag the Shutter" to make things smooth as you can't really fix the blips in post.

comment How do I create a zoom transition in Premiere Elements 9?
I think it would be helpful if you included a link to an example (youtube or like) of what you are exactly looking for, and another link to the "non-transitioning zoom that "jumps" into zoom from one frame to the other."

comment What are the audio production capabilities in Sony Vegas Pro because I see mostly plug-ins only?
I still have a lot to learn with any editor, and Vegas has been nice to me, things are fairly logical and don't take too long to grasp. Thank you dwwilson66 for contributing--great foot notes on history.

Calling all "artlantis" experts, this has your name on it. :>

I assume you do not have access to the original files before they were made into a Quicktime VR? It seems you are asking to reverse engineer what Quicktime created, were these converted to make panoramic shots?

That's a really good answer, I think you are right that being AT&T they have their own software.

When your dad got the camera did it come with software from Sony? Specifically does it have Sony's PMB (Picture Motion Browser)? If he lost it, go here: sony-mea.com/support/download/316131 Go here to learn how to use it: youtube.com/watch?v=k5tmwml4zeA

comment Command-line tool to split video at timepoints?
30 cuts of clips is really not much for editors. I would simply put them in my Vegas timeline and use the 'split' feature as required or put them in a Premiere CS5.5 timeline and use the 'razor'. Do you want these as separate renders too or just have time points that have perhaps a title separating them? It's just not clear to me how you see the final product?

Thanks for the update. A word of caution, unless you have permission to copy the work, you might be violating copyright laws when taking video of other peoples work.

Are you expecting all the cameras to be in sync too? If so what sort of gen-lock like system did you have in mind?

Don't slip on the soap. Ok, seriously, have a buddy keep an eye on the gear that you are not using so you still have it when you leave.

I am not clear on what you are asking. Are you interested in recording a projection of a video with another camera? If so why not just make a copy of the the material being projected?

comment Video clip is smaller dimensions than project. How to change the color of extra space?
I should have picked that up with the tag. Sorry, I don't use FCPX, but in most pro editors you could try masking out the bars, or have you tried reversing the top vs. bottom layer, then mask the upper layer to only allow what you want to show over the bottom layer.
